Although Utila is still very much a mall laid back island community, it's close contact with the international traveller has given it a degree of sophistication in several aspects. Although there are

very many restaurants and comedores, we have selected the most outstanding ones. This does not mean that those not mentioned are not worth while trying out, but rather that they have not reached the level of sophistication that the others we are listing have already reached.


Munchies Cafe Located on Main Street in Utila's oldest and historic Island House originally built in 1864 and recently restored to reflect the days gone past near the municipal dock. Now under new management, this establishment is even more popular than before. Fresh home made bread and the largest menu selection on the island includes over 23 options for breakfast, 28 for lunch and 30 for dinner. This pleasant cafe is a favourite hang out for locals and tourists alike, serving all-day breakfasts, fresh fruit shakes, ice cream, light lunches and more formal dining in the evening, including daily fresh caught seafood dishes. Open daily from 7:30 a.m. Till 1O:OOp.m. Good location for tourist info, and check out their Iguana Wall in the back garden area.


The Jade Seahorse.A truly unique museum like atmosphere decorated with island antiques and marine paraphernalia, this restaurant is unique to all of Honduras. Tropical gardens with very artistic surroundings add


the charm of the restaurant. Famous as the best seafood restaurant in Utila, as well as for the best fresh fruit shakes on the island, the Jade Seahorse is open from 7:00 a.m. Till 3:00 p.m. & from 5:00 p.m. To lO:OO p.m.daily. Bar is basically limited to beers and wine. Located on Cola de Mico Road. Just follow the road up from the municipal dock.


One of the best options in town for breakfast. Don't miss the new Treetanic Bar located within the Jade Seahorse's premises, a definitely fun deck, located above the ground, under the fresh shade of a huge mango tree and with the form of an old pirate ship. The new nightline cabins are located here also!


LaPirata This restaurant offers the best view of Utila and is a good spot to enjoy the cool trade winds. Open daily for dinner from 6:00p.m., and offering a variety of dishes, La Pirata specializes in steaks and offers the best meat dishes on the island. They also have a great fully stocked bar and outstanding service. One of the better options for dinner in Utila. Bar opens daily at 1:00 p.m.


Bundu Cafe A very pleasant and popular cafe serving some of the best coffee on the island. Selection of Cappuccino, Espresso, Latte, Mocha and regular coffee. Opens Thursday through Monday from 7:00 a.m. Till 12:30p.m. Light fresh foods, such as bagels, paninis, crepes, sandwiches and smoothies and a daily lunch special available. Pleasant comfy couches are ideal to sit and relax while you wait for your lunch or sip your smoothie. New owners are really trying to provide quality service and food. Best book exchange in town, as well as a good source of information on local tours. Now also offering dinner several nights of the week!


Cafe Mariposa A brand new building houses this very nice rather upscale bistro cafe that is located right on the water. Open Wednesday to Saturday from 5:00p.m. Till 1O:00p.m. Sunday brunch served from 9:00 a.m. till noon with bar open all day. Exquisite appetizers, desserts, coffee and tea. Brick oven pizzas served on Fridays. Full international bar and some of the coldest beers on the island, they also have a nice selection


of imported wines.


La Piccola The Italian specialty restaurant in Utila, featuring home made pasta made with imported ingredients. Try the ravioli and lasagna, which have become the house specialty. La Piccola also offers the only imported beef cuts on the island, as well as a large selection of wines from around the world. The personal attention and fine service provided by owner and Chef Kate make of this the most distinguished restaurant on the island. The home made desserts, like tiramisu are outstanding. They also have a nice selection of vegetarian food options. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 5:00p.m. till 10:00 p.m. They accept and exchange Euros.


The Indian Wok Adjacent to Tranquila Bar, this nice Cajun style restaurant is owned and operated by Liz, a native Luisianan who has brought with her the flair and fun of Cajun food to Utila. Also offering huge burgers and great salads. Open Thursday to Sunday from 6 - 10 p.m.They Now even have SUSHI!!


The Mermaid One of the oldest establishments in town that has managed to stay in business despite many hardships. Specializing in Chinese food as well as a daily buffet meal, they have a nice establishment on Main Street. Affordable prices and a nice selection have made of this an icon in Utila.


Thomsons Bakery Open daily. Fresh baked cakes and rolls, fresh orange juice and a selection of omelets are all available here. Economical and a tradition in Utila. Located on Cola de Mico Road.


Pizza La Dolce Vita Located at the Mango Inn Hotel. Open from 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to Saturday, Sundays special BBQ from noon till 10:00 p.m. One of the better alternatives for breakfast in town. Dinner menu changes daily, but offers several alternatives including a vegetarian selection. Italian style pizza.


The Island Cafe / Dave's Restaurant Located just next to Coco Loco Bar, and open only for dinner. One of the preferred spots for dinner as far as the locals are concerned. Menu changes daily and offers a variety of meats, each with a variety of sauces.


Driftwood Restaurant and Bar Located over the water, across the road from the Margaritaville hotel in Sandy Bay. Probably one of the coolest spots on the island on hot days. Under new management, now owned by Texans, they offer a full selection of BBQ dishes, including steaks, ribs and kabobs. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 :00 a.m. till 10:00p.m. Kitchen closes at 9:oo p.m. and bar is usually closed by 10:00p.m. A good spot to enjoy the sunset while sipping an ice cold beer or to start your bar hopping tour. Very popular both with expats living in Utila as well as with locals. Tourists are most welcome.


ElCastillo Located just below the Colibri Hill Hotel, this restaurant is an interesting

combination of international restaurant and Irish Pub. Open daily except Sunday from

5:00 p.m. till midnight. Dart board and pool table on premises.


Ultralight An Israeli specialty restaurant located on the main street of Utila, past the Bayview Hotel, about halfway between the Margaritaville Hotel and the Utila Lodge. Very informal setting. Goodselection of vegetarian food.


RJ's BBQ Grill Open only Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. BBQ grill specialties. Opens at 5:00p.m Located near the bridge towards the old airport.


Pizza Nut Located at the Coco Loco Bar, Pizza Nut is open nightly offering what is probably the best pizza in Utila.
